Several years ago I, Aaron McClearnon was offered to be apart of a new Kiteboarding Company named Mutiny. The developers and designers of a popular brand Flexi Foil decided to create their own company so to promote advances in the kiteboarding community. Through out the past couple years their design and quality have increased to compete with top brands out on the market today. Kites designed specifically for a particular rider. Performance, Surf and Free ride.
This past weekend my wife and I drove down to Key Largo to join several other Mutiny riders and one owner. Two of them coming from Holland and the other Seattle, Washington. A two day bonze trip for her and I, but an 8 day Research and Development work week for them. Testing all the new generation kites in 82 degree weather with crystal clear water. The guys from Holland felt as if the were in paradise fore it was below ZERO back at home. Good for them!
Among the crew was Mat Miller, group organizer for Kite Jam, who became a honorary team rider for the week. Go Matt! With many of spots to choose from we decided that the wind direction would be perfect for Curry Hammock State Park. Talk about a great launch; grass, sand beach, new bathrooms, showers and really nice park rangers. Kind of expensive to get in. 3.00 per person but well worth it. Plenty of room in the water to ride as long as you don’t stay in front of launch.
The hottest event of the weekend was enjoying seeing my wife stand up on a board for the first time. Took me five years to get her to say yes to lessons and within several hours we had her riding several hundred feet in both directions. I don’t know who was more excited about this, me or her because we both screamed with laughter after her first and final ride. I guess all those years of me talking the kite lingo really sunk into her making the learning curve easier. Cant wait to do trips with her in the future.
Many more trips down there ahead. Enjoy some of the pictures of Curry!
